Meanwhile Inside

A song about the extraordinary amount of life that can exist beneath an apparently quiet surface—where thoughts, feelings, questions and ideas are constantly moving, meeting and becoming something new.

About

Meanwhile, Inside began with the contrast between what a life can look like from the outside and how much can actually be happening within it.

A day may appear completely ordinary: coffee, work, a little rain. Someone asks, “How are you?” and the answer is simply, “Good.” Yet beneath that quiet surface, thoughts can be moving, feelings changing, questions opening into other questions and ideas becoming songs, stories or entirely new directions.

The song plays with that contrast. An hour of silence does not necessarily mean that nothing happened. Stillness is not always still. A small feeling can find a rhythm, one thought can become fifteen, and an apparently uneventful afternoon can contain an entire journey through love, time, existence and back again.

It is also a recognition of a particular kind of aliveness: one that does not always need to be visible from the outside. Some of the richest movement in a human life can happen internally, quietly, while the person appears to be doing almost nothing at all.

“You don’t have to live out loud to be wildly alive.”

Lyrics

[Intro]

Nothing much happened today.

Coffee.
Work.
A little rain.

Someone asked me,
“How are you?”

I said, “Good.”

[Beat]

Meanwhile, inside…

[Verse 1]

I observe my mind dancing,
I fell in love and back again,
had a small debate with time,
lost it, then became its friend.

Built a world around a question,
tore it down by half past three,
wrote a song about existence—

while quietly drinking my coffee.

[Chorus]

Meanwhile, inside…
everything’s alive.
Thoughts are dancing on the tables,
questions keeping me up all night.

Meanwhile, inside…
there’s a universe in flight.

You don’t have to live out loud
to be wildly alive.

[Verse 2]

I can spend an hour in silence
and come back with something new.
One small feeling finds a rhythm,
one idea becomes a few.

One little thought became a question,
then another, then fifteen.
Took a spiral through existence—

now I am back here with you.

[Bridge]

Quiet isn’t empty
’cause stillness isn’t still.

Some lives happen in the distance.

Some happen
deep within.

[Final Chorus]

Meanwhile, inside…
everything’s alive.
Love and questions, songs and stories
become friends and speak.

Meanwhile, inside…
there’s more life than meets the eye.

I don’t have to live out loud
to be wildly alive.

[Outro]

“Anything new?”

Not really.

[Pause]

Meanwhile, inside…

Connections

Meanwhile, Inside explores the difference between what can be observed from the outside and what is actually being lived within. It connects with the book 'Lenses of Perception' through the idea that human experience is not defined only by visible events: meaning is also being formed through thoughts, feelings, questions, associations and the inner movement through which we experience our lives.
