Why don’t these people seem to “move the story forward”?

Because presence does not require narrative momentum in order to exist.

Society advances through:
conflict → resolution → next goal.

A person living from presence does not need to generate tension to feel alive.
They do not accelerate experience to justify existence.

Their participation is not dramatic.
It is stable.

They are fully inside life, but not invested in turning life into a storyline.
