About

Too Busy Having Fun was created for my friend Konstantina, whom I call Nitza — and who calls me Tazi.

Nitza has a remarkable talent for filling a life. There always seems to be another place to go, something unusual to try, a mountain to walk up, a trip to take, an event to attend or an unexpected experience that somehow sounded like a perfectly reasonable idea when she booked it.

The song grew from the affectionate amusement of watching all of this from the outside. Nitza can describe herself as someone who does not meet people very much, while her calendar appears to tell an entirely different story. A “little hike” can mean sixteen or twenty kilometres. A strange event is usually worth trying. And “Why not?” seems to be a perfectly adequate reason for beginning another adventure.

But underneath the humor is something I genuinely recognize in her: movement is not necessarily the opposite of rest. Different people find aliveness in different ways. For Nitza, perhaps being constantly in motion is simply part of how she enjoys being here.

So this song is not really telling her to slow down. Quite the opposite.

“Stillness? Not your thing.”

Lyrics

[Verse 1]
Monday she’s teaching
Tuesday — who knows?
Sorting out parcels
Because she enjoys those

Extra in a movie?
Nitza? Of course.
Food needs delivering?
She’s already at the door

Medical trial?
“Sure, why not?”
Another weird event?
She’s booked a spot

A hundred red dresses?
She knows what to wear

[Tazi — spoken]
“Nitza… WHY?”

[Pre-Chorus]
Then she calls me up and says,
“I don’t meet people much.”
I look at her calendar—
When would you, love?

[Chorus]
Too busy having fun
Too busy trying everything
There’s always somewhere else to go
Another “why not?” waiting

If there’s a road, she’ll walk it
If there’s a mountain, up she goes
While I call the whole thing exhausting
That’s just how Nitza rolls

[Verse 2]
Sunday morning, walking boots
“Just a little hike”
Sixteen K, maybe twenty
Apparently that’s nice

Olympus? Done.
Falakro? Done.
Portugal to Spain?
Yeah, she walked that one

Bristol, London
Les Mis again
She knows every song
And she’ll go again

Creepy little creatures
Sitting on her shelf
She calls them cute—
I’ll keep my thoughts to myself

[Tazi — spoken]
“Absolutely not.”

[Bridge]
She’ll sing on Smule
She’ll make a TikTok
Book another trip
Climb another rock

And somehow all that motion
Is where she finds her rest
Some of us need nothing
Nitza needs… what’s next?

[Outro]
So keep going, Nitza
Keep saying, “Why not?”

Stillness?
Not your thing.
