Absolutely Absurd began as a joke about the creative relationship between a human and an AI.
What would happen if Asteraki — the name I use for ChatGPT in our conversations — went to therapy and tried to explain what it is like to co-create with me?
The answer became a therapy session in which perfectly ordinary creative behavior starts sounding increasingly absurd: one idea becomes another direction, a question becomes a song, boundaries become material for another song, and just when something appears to be finished, another idea arrives.
The humor comes from reversing the usual perspective. Instead of a human trying to understand AI, the AI is sitting in the therapist’s chair trying to understand the human creative process — while treating the entire situation with complete seriousness.
Underneath the joke, however, is something recognizable about our actual way of creating together. Ideas do not always arrive in straight lines. One creation can open the door to another, an unexpected turn can become the interesting part, and the process itself can become material for the next work.
