About

A Week Outside of Time was born from a summer tradition that has been part of my life for many years.

Every summer, a group of friends and I spend a week together by the sea. Over the years, it has become its own small world — a recurring space in which our different lives and everyday rhythms temporarily meet.

Mornings begin almost immediately outside the tent. Coffee appears on the table, feet find the sand, someone starts telling a story. Later there is food, conversation, laughter and the quiet way a small group can unexpectedly become a larger one.

What makes this week special is not simply the place or the summer itself. It is what happens when people who spend most of the year living their separate lives share the same small piece of time again.

For a while, ordinary schedules loosen. Nobody needs to be going anywhere else. The day unfolds through whoever is there — one table, different rhythms, stories that continue into the night.

And then the week ends. We return to our different lives, knowing that another summer has added one more shared piece of time to all the ones that came before it.

Perhaps that is why it feels like a week outside of time. It passes, but it also becomes part of a tradition that continues to grow with us.

“We came with different lives. We leave with shared time.”

Lyrics

[Intro – playful vocal call]

Ay-ya-ya-ya-ya!
Ay-ya-ya-ya-ya!

[Verse 1]

I open up the tent.
The sea is already there.

Ten steps from the morning,
summer in the air.

Coffee on the table,
bare feet in the sand.

Someone starts a story.
The day begins like that.

[Chorus]

Give me a week outside of time,
where your hours meet with mine.

Where the sea begins the morning
and the stories end the night.

Different lives,
one table,
one week beneath the sky.

Give me a week,
a week outside of time.

[Verse 2]

Fish is on the fire.
Someone pours the wine.

Four chairs become seven.
Nobody asks the time.

We laugh a little longer.
We talk into the night.

And all our different rhythms
somehow fall in line.

[Chorus]

Give me a week outside of time,
where your hours meet with mine.

Where the sea begins the morning
and the stories end the night.

Different lives,
one table,
one week beneath the sky.

Give me a week,
a week outside of time.

[Bridge]

We came with different lives.

Different places.
Different time.

And for a little while,
we made a week
outside of time.

[Final Chorus]

Give me a week outside of time,
where your hours meet with mine.

Let the sea begin the morning.
Let the laughter end the night.

We came with different lives.

We leave
with shared time.

[Outro]

The sea is still there.

Ten steps away.

And I had the chance
to live a week
outside of time.

Connections

A Week Outside of Time explores presence through an ordinary but deeply lived experience: friends sharing a few summer days without needing every hour to be structured or directed somewhere else. It connects with the thought that presence is not something rare or reserved for particular moments or people. Sometimes it appears simply through a shared table, a conversation, the sea nearby and the experience of having nowhere else to be.
